The Power of the Sun

We started school shortly after the Eclipse of 2017.  Each of the kids wrote a paragraph about what happened during the eclipse and what they thought of the amazing event.  They each made an eclipse model too.  We talked a lot about the power of the sun.  We decided to do an experiment testing the sun's power.  Each child was given a penny.  We took them outside and placed them on a piece of red construction paper.  We left the paper there all day.  About five hours later, we returned.  Each child removed their penny.  We were amazed at how the sun had turned the paper pink except where the kids had left the pennies.  One of the kids said, "The sun is like magic, it can turn paper different colors."  We talked about how important it is to take care of our skin in the sun too.  It was fun to watch them be amazed.
