Nutrition Plate!

We read the book Dragon Gets By.  Dragon made poor nutrition choices and had to deal with some health issues.  We studied the Nutrition Plate that is promoted by the government to learn about healthy eating.  The kids were divided into teams and given some ads from newspapers.  They cut out and pasted the appropriate food to the right section of the plate. It was very interesting to listen to them talk about the healthy foods they liked and how many bad choices there are.  It was really fun to watch them work together to figure out what goes where!

Learning to add using Touch Points!

It was amazing how fast the kids could add multiple numbers using Touch Points.  They learned about 'looking for a ten' and then adding on. . . Super Fun!

What Do You Do When The Lights Go Out At Jefferson?

So, apparently a bird flew into a transformer which blew up and knocked the power out to a whole grid of Pocatello.  We were left in the dark for over 30 minutes.  We actually had a blast.  First, we read some Junie B. Jones.  Then, we played Math in the Dark (it was a bit challenging).  Last, we went outside for some extra recess.  The kids were great.  They want the power to go out everyday but most of them were really worried about the bird.  One of the kids said, "That little bird gave his life so we could have extra recess!" So sweet, so tweet!

Reading, Reading, Reading!
