Arrrrgh Matey, Pirate Day was a blast!

Learning about r-controlled vowels was so much fun.  We figured out that the letter r is very bossy when it has to follow a vowel and won't even let the vowel say it's name.  Some of the kids turned into 'gold'en vowels and had to hide from the powerful r - pirates but they hunted them, found them and then helped them make a word.  In fact, working together the r-controlled pirates found a ton of words with r-controlled vowels.  They wrote the words and had the pirates they made say the words.  It was super fun and the kids will always remember about "arrrrrr"-controlled vowels.

Alphabetical Order Fun

As we learned about putting words in alphabetical order, we figured out that sometimes you have to look at the second, third and even fourth letter to put them in the correct order.  This was a little hard but a lot of fun when it came to putting their names in order.

Good-Night Owl!

We have been learning about characters and how they help develop a story.  We read the books Owl Moon  which in non-fiction and Good-Night Owl which is fiction.  After we compared and contrasted the stories and their characters, we decided it would be easier to make the characters in Good-Night Owl.  The story is about an Owl who lives in a big tree and tried to sleep all day but all of the other animals in the tree keep him up but, at night he gets is revenge.  The kids had so much fun working together to build their character.  When we told the story they made the sounds their characters would make! Wowzers, they do ever make great animal noises.  It was a blast.
