Thanksgiving Feast and Fun

Thanks to our awesome parents for sending delicious food for our Feast.  It was a great Thanksgiving.  Our Good Old Fashion Settlers/Native American Rendezvous was amazing.  The kids visited all three second grade  classrooms.  They learned a Native American Stick Game and made a necklace in one.  They learned about and created a Katchena Spirit Doll in another and they made a Native American headband and basket in the other.  The learning was interesting and the projects turned out great.  After the feast, the kids constructed a tri-a-rama with the First Thanksgiving depicted. We will be writing about our experiences and how grateful we are for the awesome things, experiences and people in our lives.

Super Cougar Clubs

Each month Jefferson Elementary rewards all of the students who have not received any Red tickets for discipline problems or issues.  The kids get to chose a club to attend.  Some of the choices include Art projects, 100-Mile Club, Yoga, Service Projects, Dance Class, Science Projects, Movie Day, Sports Club etc.  It is a lot of fun and a great way to reward good choices and behavior.  Way to go kids!

Fables, Folktales and Fun

One of our Common Core Standards this year is learning about Fables, Folktales, Fairy Tales and Tall Tales from different countries.  We learned about Aesop and his Fables.  We learned about the difference between Fables, Folktales and Fairy Tales.  We even read a few Tall Tales.  The highlight of the unit was that each of the kids wrote, illustrated and presented their own Fable.  They designed and colored a setting and characters.  We used an overhead projector to tell their puppet fable.  Wowzers, these kids are clever.  We learned a lot of life lessons and morals from their wisdom!
