ALS ICE BUCKET CHALLENGE

My daughter, granddaughters and sister nominated me for the ALS ICE BUCKEt CHALLENGE. I visited with my Principal to see if I could include my students if I could use it for an educational purpose. He was supportive as well as the parents. They were awesome. We learned a lot about ALS and what a terrible disease it is. We drew brains on an outline of a body and then drew muscles from the brains all over the body. Then we drew big red X's where the ALS stops the nerves from being able to understand what the brain is telling them. The kids were so attentive. We decided that we hope everyone donates when they do the challenge because we want Scientists to be able to find a cure for this horrible disease.

A ROYAL WELCOME TO SECOND GRADE!

It was such a great pleasure to get to know my new students this year.  They are little treasures.  The first thing we learned about was "The Higher Law" or "The Golden Rule".  I have a poster pinned to the ceiling that says: The Golden Rule - Treat others they way you want to be treated.  We laid on the floor and studied the rule.  We decided that it is really important to listen to each other because we want people to listen to us.

A ROYAL TEA FOR ROYALTY
In our next fun activity we learned about Royalty and if it was real or fantasy.  We learned that some countries have real Kings and Queens and some people are born into royalty and some people marry into royalty.  We discuss how royals act and how they must have nice manners and treat people well and it is really great if they are kind.  Then we had a Royal Tea Party.  It was super fun.  We drank our tea (punch) with our pinkies in the air and we quoted Englishmen by asking, "May I have a spot of tea please?"  We ate royal food: mini bagel pizzas, cream puffs, frosted grapes and we practiced having nice manners.  The King (Principal Winward) visited our Royal Tea Party too.  It was a blast, I mean a jolly good time, an exquisite event!
